IARB Activities:
Employing professional consultants from Israel
and abroad, the IARB defined the scientific
requirements of the new peoplemeter system for
audience measurement. In accordance with these
requirements TeleGal (A.G.B) was selected as
franchisee to establish and operate the system.
TeleGal,
an Israeli company created by the merging of
Teleseker and Gallup (Israel), is linked to the
British Taylor Nelson Sofres by technological
support and scientific expertise agreements. Taylor Nelson
Sofres, a company rich with years of
experience in the audience measurement field, has
established similar peoplemeter systems in many
countries around the world.
Idioma company is responsible for collecting and processing the
identifying data regarding TV items. Telegal combines daily this data with the viewing data and creates
the ability to analyze it not just by time shares and raiting, but by program names, commercials and
promos as well.
As the system is in its operational mode, The
IARB continues to work alongside and monitor
closely TeleGal's and Idioma's work.
Audience measurement with a peoplemeter
system in Israel
The peoplemeter system in Israel, like in many
other countries, is based on ongoing, real time,
hourly television viewing measurement, throughout
the day. Peoplemeters are placed in the homes of
panel members which are selected carefully and
represent the entire Israeli television viewing
audience.
The Israeli panel consists of 385 households,
which represent 1,400 women, men and children.
These households were carefully selected from 6,000
families which were interviewed in a special
scientific process called an “establishment
survey”. These 6,000 families were thoroughly
interviewed in advance, and the information
gathered by this process is the basis of the
characteristics upon which the representative
panel was defined. The panel is a nationwide
representation of all sectors of the Israeli
society.
IARB decided already to enlarge the panel size
to 440 households.
Viewing Reports
Since the launching day, which was on March 1st
1998, members of the IARB and other clients of
the peoplemeter system, receive daily database of
the television viewing - day-parts, programs,
commercials etc.
Currently the IARB reports cover the 3 main Israeli channels: channel 1 (IBA), channel 2 (commercial), since 28.1.02 channel 10 (commercial), and also other minor channels including MTV, NTV and ORT .
Each one of these organizations analyze the
information, according to their interest, i.e.
ratings, share, reach etc.
IARB publishes weekly reports on top programs,
which can be
accessed by the general public at this web
site (in Hebrew), Links to
other sites relating to television and
advertising, in Israel and other countries, are
also available in this site.
